How to choose swimming goggles

Step 1: Determine the core purpose (Who are you?)

Competitive training: Pursuing streamlined design, low resistance, wide field of vision, and ultimate adhesion.

Leisure and fitness: Pursuing comfort, anti-fog, medium field of view, and no discomfort when worn for a long time.

Outdoor/open water: Coated lenses (UV protection) must be chosen as the top priority for a clear view.

Children/beginners: Safety first. Soft silicone rings and adjustable headbands are required. Cute designs are often used.

Step 2: Achieve a perfect fit (no leakage is the key)
This is the most crucial step and has nothing to do with brand or price.

Dry bonding test (no headband required)

Gently press the swimming goggles over the eye sockets.

Gently press and use the suction force of the air inside the mirror to make it adhere to your face.

If the frame can stick in place for 2 to 3 seconds without the headband, it indicates that the outline of the frame basically matches the shape of your eye socket bones.

Check the material of the sealing ring

Silicone rubber sealing ring: The most common, soft and comfortable, with good adhesion. It is divided into single-coil and double-coil types. Double-coil types are usually more comfortable and leak-proof.

Rubber-free/Racing version: Made of high-quality soft material, it directly adheres to the skin with minimal resistance. However, it has extremely high requirements for face shape and is suitable for both competitive and specific face shapes.

Step 3: Select the lens function (you want to see the underwater world clearly)

Lens color

Transparent/light color: Suitable for indoor swimming pools or when there is insufficient light, it offers the most natural and bright view.

Dark/smoke gray: For use in strong outdoor light, it reduces glare and protects the eyes.

Coated/colored lenses: The first choice for UV protection, while reducing water surface reflection, increasing contrast, and making underwater lines clearer.

Blue/pink, etc. : Enhance visual contrast and a sense of pleasure, suitable for most indoor and outdoor environments.

Lens function

Anti-fog: The vast majority of swimming goggles come with an anti-fog coating from the factory. Do not wipe the inner lenses with your hands or cloth. Just rinse them with clean water. The anti-fog effect will weaken over time.

Myopia degree: You can choose ready-made myopia swimming goggles (with the same degree for both eyes) or custom-made lens swimming goggles (with different degrees for both eyes). Generally, the underwater temperature should be 50 to 100 degrees lower than that on land. It is necessary to consult a professional.

Summary and action suggestions
Perfect swimming goggles = a perfect fit to the face shape + lenses that match the scene + details that meet the needs.

Remember this sequence when trying on: first do a “dry fit test”, and then put on the headband for fine-tuning. Underwater, a suitable pair of swimming goggles should make you almost forget its existence.
